Seatools for DOS won't repair two bad sectors on Maxtor: says it's another company drive.

CRC read errors. on Maxtor 6L300S0 DiamondMax 300 GB Sata.

chkdsk didn't complain when it ran to repair from Windows XP Pro install disk.

But making driveimage backup of drive, I found two.

SeaTools found errrors.

SeaTools for DOS found two errors but wouldn't try to repair because it's a non Seagate drive.

What can I do to get them fixed by SeaTools?

Record the sector numbers reported by SeaTools. Then confirm that they are bad by trying to read them with a disc editor.

HxD - Freeware Hex Editor and Disk Editor:

If the sectors are in use by files, then the following procedure may help you identify the file names.

Tip: How to determine which file occupies a particular sector:

After you have identified the corrupted files, delete them and replace them with backups. This will free up the bad sectors, marking them as unused. The next time Windows writes to them, the bad sectors will be retested and returned to service if they come good, or they will be replaced with spares if confirmed bad.

If the bad sectors fall within the unused area, then you could use your disc editor to write zeros to these sectors, with the same result as before.
