Announcement - Kudos and Accepted Solution features now up and running!

[ Edited ]

We are pleased to announce two new features on the forums: Kudos and Accepted Solution.

Kudos

The Kudos feature is a new rating system that allows you to give approval to content that you think is helpful, well formed, insightful, or otherwise generally valuable in the community. When you give a Kudos to a message, you are giving not only a thumbs up for good content, but also a pat on the back to its author. The net effect is to boost the value of the message and enhance the reputation of its author.

Kudos points are counted and displayed on the messages themselves and on leaderboards for each level of the community. In addition, Kudos Activity pages, available from your profile page, show the kudos you have recently given or received.

In search results, a quick scan of the Kudos column tells you which messages are most likely to be helpful.

You will be able to see the Kudos symbol in the left sidebar of each post, with a star-like icon, just under the username and user details.
To give a Kudos, simply click on the symbol and you will get the message saying “1 Kudoed: Thanks!”.
As the author of the post you will see you have received a Kudos right on the message page.  All other users will see how many kudos the post has received.

Should you accidentally give a Kudos when you did not mean to, you can go to the Options drop-down menu in the top right-hand corner of the message and choose “Revoke my Kudos from this message”.

Accepted Solution

Accepted Solutions will benefit both members seeking answers and those helping to provide them. If you are looking for an answer to your question by browsing through thread titles, you will be able to see a "Solved" icon next to posts where members have accepted a solution. Also, when you perform a Search on the Community, you will also be able to see by the "Solved" icon if the post has an Accepted Solution. This will assist you to more quickly find the solution to your question, if one has been found.

If you are helping other members by answering questions, you will be able to see from the "Solved" icon if the member has already received a solution. You can then focus on threads not marked "Solved".

How to use the new feature:

If you ask a question on the Seagate Forums and receive replies, you will now see a green checkmark to the right of the text for each reply. As the author of the topic, you can click on any reply to set it as the Accepted Solution if it solves your problem. An icon and the word "Solved" will be added to your original post to show that you have accepted a solution. Clicking on this icon will take members directly to the solution. When looking at the board view, you will also see a "Solved" icon next to your thread.

If, in the future, you see a better solution, you can also revoke the first solution by clicking to the upper-right of the Solution post and choosing Options --> Unmark as Accepted Solution. You may then choose another post as the solution. If you solve your own question, you may also mark your own post as the solution if you have solved the problem yourself.

Only the author of the post or a moderator can accept or revoke a solution. Moderators will generally let members mark solutions on their topics, but may occasionally mark a solution accepted for the benefit of future readers of the topic.

We hope you find these functions useful and that they enhance your enjoyment of the community!
